What has Happened: Earlier today, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement that will pause fighting in Gaza. The agreement includes three phases, the first of which is a 42-day ceasefire, during which 33 hostages (children, women, female soldiers, men over the age of 50, and humanitarian cases) would be released, while Hamas would receive hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in return. Israel would begin to withdraw from parts of northern Gaza in the first phase, allowing Palestinians to return to their homes, and humanitarian aid would then be accelerated in Gaza.
